How long does it take to get SR-22 insurance?

So, you need to obtain an SR-22 insurance certificate? You might be wondering how long it takes to get this type of certificate so you can get back on the road again.

That’s why we offer you this step-by-step guide to getting your SR-22 as soon as possible:

Step 1: Contact your insurance provider

Not all insurance companies provide SR-22 certificates, so contact your agent to see if your current provider offers them. If not, you’ll have to find a new insurance policy. Dairyland® offers policies with an SR-22 you can purchase online or over the phone from one of our agents, or with a local independent insurance agent.

An SR-22 filing can increase the cost of your insurance, so be sure to discuss this either with your current agent or when you’re researching new policies.

Step 2: Provide your information

Once you find your SR-22 insurance provider, be prepared to share your driver’s license number or case number. Next, your carrier will inform your state—on your behalf—that they’re covering your driving for certain car insurance-related circumstances.

Step 3: Receive your SR-22

No waiting game here! Insurance carriers’ processing methods will likely issue your SR-22 the same day you request it. In most states, Dairyland can issue your electronic SR-22 and contact your state within the same day.

Step 4: Get back on the road

After you purchase insurance and file your SR-22, be sure to complete the additional steps laid out to you by your state so you’re able to get back on the road legally again. It’s also important to keep proof of insurance or your ID card in the vehicle with you, just in case.

Depending on your state, this certificate will likely be on file for three years. If your SR-22 filing lapses and you still need it, your insurance provider is required by law to inform the Department of Motor Vehicles. This could result in the loss of your driver’s license. Making your insurance payments on time prevents your SR-22 from lapsing during the three-year requirement (or amount of time required by your state).

Following these steps can help you get your SR-22 certificate in less than two days so you’re able to focus on moving forward. As you continue your journey, drive safely.
