Thanks to those who chose paperless billing, over 95,000 trees were planted across the country last year. Through our partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, a tree is planted for each customer that goes paperless. The goal is to help restore forests where regeneration is needed due to natural disasters and other threats.
Every tree that’s been planted through this program was made possible by customers like you. Let’s take a look at the positive impact we’ve seen so far.
About 95,100 trees were planted in 2021 to restore damaged forests. Reviving these forests helps protect native wildlife, promote healthy ecosystems, improve watershed health, and bolster areas against future disasters.
The Arbor Day Foundation is working with the State of Washington’s Department of Natural Resources to help improve overall forest health throughout the state. In 2021, Dairyland customers helped plant over 14,000 trees across nearly 43 acres. Trees planted include Douglas fir, western hemlock, and western redcedar.
Over the next 40 years, these trees will:
Known for supporting diverse flora and fauna, the longleaf pine tree is in trouble in the Lone Star State. To help strengthen the tree’s decreasing numbers, paperless Dairyland customers helped replanting efforts in nine different sections of Texas land in 2021. More than 11,600 longleaf pine trees were planted across 25 acres.
Over the next 40 years, these trees will:
The water quality in the Olentangy River and Alum Creek is being affected by area development. Planting trees helps improve the watershed and wildlife habitats, reduce stormwater runoff, and restore native trees to the landscape. In 2021, 8,000 trees—including oaks, red maples, bald cypress, and water hickory—were planted thanks to Dairyland customers.
Over the next 40 years, these trees will:
Hurricane Michael hit this area in 2018, damaging 12,000 acres of mature slash pine trees. Dairyland customers helped plant 30,000 longleaf pines in 2021, reaching more than 44 acres and helping to restore the forests.
Over the next 40 years, these trees will:
Another 2018 storm, Hurricane Florence, hit North Carolina. The storm flooded the Cape Fear River, destroying trees in Bladen Lakes State Forest. To preserve the health of the forest, fast-growing longleaf pine seedlings have been planted. Thanks to Dairyland customers, nearly 31,500 trees were planted in 2021, covering close to 57 acres.
Over the next 40 years, these trees will:
We’re continuing our partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation. So, if you haven’t participated yet, here’s your chance to help create a cleaner, greener future.
