Many motorcycle riders find visiting America’s historical sites an interesting way to explore and learn about our nation. That’s why the little town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is such a draw. From the civil war battle that marked the high-water mark of the Confederacy and the turning point of the war, to the poignant address Abraham Lincoln delivered there, history surrounds Gettysburg.
One week each summer, riders are drawn to Gettysburg Bike Week motorcycle rally. It offers the opportunity to soak up history while touring the battlefield, as well as plenty of riding adventures. The rally offers a full slate of motorcycle rally fun. Here’s a look at some of what’s offered:
No visit to this historic area would be complete without visiting the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center. It offers interactive learning experiences, historic artifacts, and the famous Gettysburg Cyclorama.
The Gettysburg Cyclorama is a circular painting 377-feet long and 42-feet high, animated with sound and lights for a breathtaking experience. French artist Paul Philippoteaux painted the Cyclorama during the late 1880s, based on extensive visits to the battlefield with veterans who were there and period photographs. It brings to life the story of Pickett’s Charge, which changed the course of the civil war. You can find out more about this unique museum at their website.
