There’s no place that’s more fun to ride a motorcycle than in the mountains. Curvy roads that change elevation make for a rollercoaster ride, and the views from the mountaintops are always breathtaking. John Denver got it right in his famous song, Country Roads, when he described West Virginia as "almost heaven." There are some heavenly mountain roads waiting for you and your motorcycle in this rugged state, and you’ll have the chance to ride them at the 14th Annual MountainFest motorcycle rally in the college town of Morgantown, West Virginia.
The area around Morgantown is known as Mountaineer Country, since it’s the home of West Virginia University and the Mountaineers football team. The area is a patchwork quilt of high-tech college towns and old-time country scenery, with countless opportunities for outdoor adventures. Along the many winding roads, you’ll find pioneer history, artist communities, and great places to relax and enjoy a good meal. Plan to do some riding, and use the rally’s downloadable ride guide to help find the best routes.
Over the past 13 years, promoter MountainFest, LLC—in cooperation with the Greater Morgantown Convention and Visitors Bureau—have fine-tuned this rally. More than a half-million riders have attended over the years, raising nearly a million dollars for local charities. Every rally day is packed with entertainment and a big concert each night.
