National Motorcycle Day 2021: A look back at acts of good done on two wheels

Fire Department visiting with a motorcyclist
August 3, 2021

National Motorcycle Day 2021 is in the rearview mirror, so let’s take some time to celebrate this fun—and meaningful—event. With the help of our partners, Marcus Luttrell in Houston and Whitney Meza in Wisconsin, team Dairyland® showed what the day is all about.

Marcus Luttrell visits Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Hospital in Houston

For Marcus’s first motorcycle ride of the day, it was only fitting that he supported some of his brothers and sisters in the military. Marcus surprised veterans arriving for appointments at Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Hospital with free coffee and breakfast. Marcus invested time to get to know the veterans during his stop.

We also wanted to celebrate the hospital’s medical workers for providing their veteran patients with consistent, compassionate care—especially after the incredibly hard year they faced. So, to say thank you, we surprised them with breakfast and coffee as well.

Whitney Meza stops by the Veterans Home at King in Waupaca, WI

Whitney is the proud wife of a veteran, so it meant a lot for her to give back to that deserving community. Together, we visited the Veterans Home at King, delivering lawn games for its nearly 300 residents. The residents will also enjoy the trees Whitney helped plant on the grounds. The apple trees will no doubt become popular relaxation spots, and the autumn blaze maple trees will add to the already beautiful foliage adorning the veterans home each fall.

Marcus and Whitney ride to local fire stations

For their second stops, both Marcus and Whitney headed to their local fire departments. In Houston, Marcus surprised a few local fire stations with an ice cream truck to help them beat the Texas heat. Marcus received a tour of the station and even hopped in the fire truck!

Meanwhile, in Oshkosh, WI, Whitney showed up with a food truck, ready to treat the entire fire department to lunch. She personally thanked the firefighters, enjoyed lunch with them, and showed off her bike.

Riders spread good all across America

True to its name, we wanted to make National Motorcycle Day a nationwide celebration this year. Dairyland encouraged riders throughout the country to jump on their bikes and spread some good of their own. We enjoyed seeing the photos everyone shared of their bikes, and hearing many great stories highlighting the generosity of the motorcycle community.
