Guadalupe River Road: A gateway to paradise

Ready for the thrill of motorcycle riding, the excitement of shooting rapids, and the serenity of gently floating down a winding river? Then the Guadalupe River should be at the top of your destination list. We've answered some frequently asked questions to help you prepare for some river recreation.

Where can you enter the Guadalupe River?

Between the Canyon Lake Dam and New Braunfels, you'll find more than a dozen opportunities to get in the water. You can rent kayaks, canoes, and tubes. Most outfitters along the river offer shuttle services, so you can park your motorcycle, swap your hot leathers for swimwear, enjoy the river, and get a lift back to your bike.

When is the best time to float the Guadalupe River?

Floating—or, as some call it, tubing—is most popular in the warmer months. Late spring to early fall is usually optimal. Of course, you can access the river in the off-season as well. Just make sure to pack your colder weather gear.

How long does it take to float the Guadalupe River?

As long as you want it to take. The primary recreational waterway runs from just below the Canyon Lake Dam to a boat ramp beneath Interstate 35 in New Braunfels. This is almost 24 miles of river fun. Most folks, however, spend between two and five hours floating in the calmer areas of the river.

How much does it cost to float the Guadalupe River?

If you bring your own tube, you can park and float the river and only pay a small fee for a shuttle. Check with some outfitters to determine which can accommodate motorcycle parking and shuttle return for non-equipment renters. That said, it's usually not worth the hassle of packing your own tube, since tube rentals are available for as little as $15 from outfitters.
