An interactive map of the Brimstone trail system is available online, with each route color-coded by terrain and difficulty:

  • Easy trails: Mostly gravel and old logging roads—great for beginners or a more relaxed ride.

  • Moderate trails: More advanced terrain with ruts, mud, washouts, and steeper climbs.

  • Difficult trails: Designed for experienced riders, offering the most challenging conditions.

You can also pick up a printed map at Brimstone Headquarters which can be helpful given the size and remoteness of the area. Another option is the free Brimstone Connection app, which includes offline maps, weather updates, and trail news.

Permits

Anyone using the riding trails, including passengers, must purchase a permit. You can buy daily, weekly, or annual passes. Multi-day permits come at discounted prices. Be sure to confirm current rates before your visit.

ATV safety tips for Brimstone Recreation

With more than 300 miles of trails, preparation is key. Always ride within your comfort level and keep these tips in mind:

  • Ride with a buddy: Having a partner makes the ride more fun. It also means another vehicle is nearby if you get stuck. Carry recovery gear such as straps and a shovel—especially in muddy conditions.

  • Stay on marked paths or designated areas: Going off-route can harm you and your vehicle, damage the terrain, and puts you at greater risk of becoming lost.

  • Pack a gear bag: Include essentials, such as a flashlight, extra batteries, a first aid kit, food, water, and warm clothing.

  • Check your ATV: Before heading out, top off fluids, inspect tires, charge your battery, and perform other basic maintenance.
