Arkansas has much to offer bikers thanks to its natural beauty and rich tradition of blues and BBQ. With plenty of winding turns, musical options, and delicious eats to satiate your appetite, the Natural State's relationship with biking is as hot as the waters that flow from its natural springs.

Before setting out on your Arkansas adventure, start your journey with motorcycle insurance, because nothing should get between you and the open road—except your bike. Whether you'll be riding on Crowley's Ridge or planning to experience the best of what the Ozark and Ouachita forests have to offer, you'll want protection for you, your bike, and your passengers.

What is required of all motorcycle riders in Arkansas?

To help you safely and legally ride in Arkansas, you’ll need to:

  • Adhere to helmet requirements:

    • Riders under 21 years of age are required to wear a helmet.

    • Adult riders over the age of 21 aren’t required to wear a helmet.

  • Wear eye protection.

  • Turn headlights on, even during the daytime.

  • Follow passenger requirements:

    • If you're under 16 years old, you can't have a passenger.

    • You may not ride with a passenger under 8 years of age.

    • You’re required to have a designated passenger’s seat for your passengers.

    • Your bike can’t carry more than two people at one time.

Breaking any of these rules may lead to a fine and up to 30 days in jail.

What are the motorcycle insurance requirements in Arkansas?

You must follow the minimum motorcycle insurance requirements to ride legally in Arkansas:

  • $25,000 for bodily injury liability and guest passenger liability coverage per person

  • $50,000 for bodily injury liability and guest passenger liability coverage per accident

  • $25,000 for property damage liability

Failing to carry the required minimum insurance results in an automatic fine.

Because an accident can yield greater debts than the minimum insurance coverage provides, you may be required to pay out of pocket for the loss. Choosing to carry higher limits can help to better protect you and those around you.

Sites to see in Arkansas

Pig Trail Scenic Byway (PTSB)

With its steep hills and sharp turns, the Pig Trail Scenic Byway is a popular destination for riders. Starting a mile past St. Paul and ending 19 miles later at the intersection of Interstate 40, the PTSB snakes its way through Ozark National Forest. This route is recommended during the spring, summer, and fall seasons due to its riches in foliage and wildflowers.

Hot Springs National Park (HSNP)

A visit and views of the natural hot springs can help you feel closer to the incredible power and wonder of nature. Although too hot to dip into in their natural state (143°F is too much for even the toughest biker), these springs include plenty of opportunities to appreciate the natural warmth of Arkansas's flowing waters. Historic bath houses near the springs offer opportunities to enjoy water heated by the power of the earth itself. Not a bad way to relax after a long day of riding.

Bikes, Blues, & BBQ Rally

You can't spell Arkansas without BBQ. And you can't paint the town red without the blues. That's why this rally, held in late September in Fayetteville, is so fitting. For more than 20 years, this rally has provided an opportunity for riders near and far to enjoy all sides of life. Nothing helps you appreciate the joys of life like the mixture of smoky BBQ and the blues. An opportunity to make friends and memories that last a lifetime, this rally is sure to make a lasting impression.
