Ozello Trail

Total distance: 9.5 miles

Difficulty level: Moderate

They say good things come in small packages—and that’s certainly true for the Ozello Trail. Coming in at just under 10 miles long, this trail gives riders a clear view of the Gulf Coast. This lightly traveled paved road winds through the salt marshes and features plenty of twists and turns making it a fun ride for moderate to experienced riders. The trail ends in Ozello, where delicious seafood and ocean views await.

Ocala National Forest roads

Total distance: Not applicable

Difficulty level: Easy-Moderate

Located between Gainesville and Orlando, Ocala National Forest consists of a network of motorcycle friendly roads and trails, making it a popular destination for riders. Two main roads crisscross the forest: Florida Route 19 (FL19), which runs north-south, and Florida Route 40 (FL40), also known as the Florida Black Bear Scenic Byway.

Branching off of these two main roads are country roads which make easy loops or side trips. You can expect to find diverse landscapes within the forest including pine uplands, sandhills, freshwater springs, and long stretches of scrub forest.

Route highlights include:

US 98: Pensacola to Crystal River

Total distance: 400 miles

Difficulty level: Easy

Spanning the length of the panhandle, this Gulf Coast route connects Pensacola to Crystal River. Through beach towns, alongside waterfronts, and across forests, you’ll ride multilane divided highways to two-lane rural roads. If you want variety, this route delivers.

One of the most scenic portions overlaps with Big Bend Scenic Byway. Here, the highway passes through Apalachicola and Tate’s Hell State Forest. Expect coastal views, pine flats, and wildlife sightings along this stretch before continuing south toward Crystal River.

Staying safe while riding in Florida

  • Slow down: Take curves slowly to reduce your risk of skidding or sliding, especially on sand.

  • Watch for wildlife: Spots such as Ocala National Forest are home to many animals, including black bears, alligators, and snakes. Stay alert for animals crossing the road, and never approach them.

  • Check the weather: Florida weather can change quickly, and coastal routes like the Ozello Trail are prone to flooding during heavy rain and high tide.

  • Protect against the sun: Some stretches have little to no tree cover, and the Florida sun can be intense. Wear sunscreen and stay hydrated throughout your ride.

  • Prep for spotty coverage: Forested and rural routes might have limited cell phone coverage. Be prepared by printing or downloading your maps or GPS directions before heading out.

Do you need motorcycle insurance in Florida?

Whether you’re cruising down the coast or winding your way through pine forests, getting motorcycle insurance in Florida can be a good idea. While motorcycle insurance isn’t strictly required by law in Florida, you’re still financially responsible if you cause an accident. In that case, you may be required to show proof of financial responsibility—and if you can’t, your registration could be suspended or revoked.

Dairyland®, a brand of the Sentry Insurance Group, offers flexible motorcycle coverage designed to help protect you, your bike, and your wallet—no matter where the Florida roads take you.
