I got a DUI/DWI. Now what?
View
If you’re convicted of a DUI (Driving Under the Influence), OWI (Operating While Inoxicated), or DWI (Driving While Intoxicated), there will be a cost. On top of legal fees, tickets, and any required classes, you’ll likely see your insurance premium go up significantly. In addition, you might need to file for an SR-22 or FR-44 to continue your coverage, or you might lose coverage from your insurance company altogether. Is there anything I can do to help keep my senior parent safe on the road?
View

Good for you for thinking of your parent’s safety behind the wheel. Yes, there are things older drivers need to be aware of—including how their age impacts their driving skills. Whether it’s helping them recognize their physical limitations or having them allow for extra drive time, having them re-evaluate their driving habits is key. They should also:

  • Get routine vision and hearing tests
  • Take a senior driving course
  • Know their route
  • Consider other methods of transportation
  • Check the weather before driving

This kind of proactive approach can make a big difference in helping them stay safe on the road.

What is an SR22/FR44?
View
The SR22 (also known as an SR-22, SR 22, or FR 44 in Florida and Virginia) isn’t an insurance policy. It’s a form required by a state to prove you have the minimum required levels of car insurance coverage. Also called a Certificate of Financial Responsibility (CFR), the SR 22 is issued by your car insurance company. In many states, we can issue—for free—an SR-22 the same day you request one.
